[EPISODE]
EP: ... of course, I was born during the war, so, it was hard to get toys and I remember wanting a doll buggy and they couldn't find one, I guess. And I got a wheelbarrow.
LB: Sometimes, the men would be out in the field working, and the
planes would come in and they'd buzz, they buzz you…
Andrew: Welcome to Season 5 of the Open Door Podcast!
SN: We have new stories, new perspectives, and new voices. We’re still linking history’s continuum to the present day...
AH:… but we’re doing things a little differently.
This season, we’ll be highlighting stories from interviews for The Brown Homestead Oral History Project. We’ll take one aspect of everyday life that tells a broader story of childhood, nostalgia, and rural living that we can all relate to.
That’s the purpose of the Oral History Project - to offer a deeper
understanding of life in rural Niagara, including here at The Brown Homestead. Afterall, we were a working farm through to the 1970s.
SN: Memories of everyday life can have meaningful impact. Whether it’s the freedom offered by bicycles, or heating up your socks on the wood stove during the wintertime - we peel back the layers of the stories of the everyday events that we have in common - to reveal the extraordinary in the ordinary.
AH: Listen to new episodes wherever you get your podcasts, and starting this season - you can even watch on our YouTube Channel.
The Brown Homestead is Niagara’s Homestead.
SN: And The Open Door is Niagara’s Podcast.
LB: I hope I didn’t say anything that I shouldn’ve.
SN: I think you've said exactly the things you're supposed to….
LB … So I shouldn't lose any sleep tonight eh.
